From a fan perspective, it was no question that Eminem made a wise decision signing raps latest super group Slaughterhouse. For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past few years, hang your head then pay attention to this blog post… Slaughterhouse is comprised of rappers Joe Budden, Royce da 5’9, Crooked I, and Joell Ortiz. Together these men have set out on what seems to be a mission to breathe life into “real hip hop”. In celebration of their signing to Shady Records and the release of their sophomore EP, Slaughterhouse held their album release party/concert here at the Highline Ballroom in NYC this evening.
After a warm welcome by legendary DJ Premier, the “4 Quarters of the Slaughter” blazed the stage dropping a few of their smash hits (including but not limited to “Microphone” and “Session One”). Crooked I took a moment to let the crowd know he was twisted while performing “Tequila Vodka Henny”, followed by Ortiz who jumped on the beat with his classic “Nissan Honda Chevy”. Just when we thought the beat was done, a familiar voice came over the PA system chiming in with the words “Hold on, I think I got somethin for that”. Surprise guest Lloyd Banks joined the crew and added his street banger “Beamer Benz or Bentley” to the mix.
Banks wasn’t the only unexpected face to grace the stage: BunB and Pharoah Monche and also made guest appearances during the event. Overall, I would have to say “welcome back” to real hip hop… Slaughterhouse is here to stay.
Exclusive D.Rock video footage from the event coming soon! Stay tuned here!
